Dharsono explained that works of art are born from creative artists, artists always increase their sensibility and perception of the dynamics of social life. People can feel the benefits of works of art. Creative artists always bring the audience to feel a work of art.

One of the works of art in the Southeast Aceh area is Mesikhat. Mesikhat is the name given by the Alas tribe to carving motifs in Southeast Aceh. But basically Mesikhat is a typical decorative motif of the Alas tribe. Mesikhat motifs can be found in traditional houses, traditional clothes, bags, wallets, and others.

The word Mesikhat comes from the language of the Alas tribe, namely tesikhat (applying decorative motifs that are in the mind without making sketches) and applying them to objects or objects. This mesikhat is spontaneously applied according to the pattern that exists in the mind without using a sketch image

Meshikhat was originally applied to traditional houses but nowadays Meshikhat is starting to be applied to traditional clothes, bags, wallets, and jewelry equipment. The mesikhat found in the house, and traditional Alas clothes have five types of colors consisting of red, yellow, green, white and black. These basic colors have their own meanings, namely the red color determines the choice, the future green, controls the glory or splendor, the white of holiness, and black controls the leadership.

Mesikhat is a work of art that departs from the visual representation of Southeast Aceh's nature. This motif symbolizes the life of the community. This depiction is manifested in the form of a motif, without eliminating the aesthetic values or aesthetic values and the meaning of the object. Such as beauty pervades nature, and beauty created by man (work of art).

Dharsono explained, Art works are a means of aesthetic life, so with artistic works aesthetic abilities and experiences become more viscous and become common property attached to the community. A value is the enjoyment given by the medium or object to the audience.

The application of Mesikhat in the house is located on the walls of the house, stairs, reject the wind, the outer wall of the house, and the inner wall of the traditional house. Mesikhat is also used in traditional clothing, traditional accessories, knife handles, rice sickle handles, and other household objects. Mesikhat has aesthetic value in the Alas tribe community. Elements of aesthetic values and meaning of the object are seen from the shape, line, color and field. The messages and meanings of Mesikhat's motifs are very diverse, ranging from social, moral, and spiritual messages according to their motives.

The shape of the Mesikhat motif departs from visual forms, plants, animals, clouds, social life and the chessboard. The number of motifs contained in Mesikhat originally consisted of 8 motifs. Today Mesichat art has evolved into 29 forms with different names

Mesikhat in the study of symbolic aesthetics aims to see the values contained in the Mesikhat motifs in the Alas Aceh Tenggara traditional house. This study looks at the meaning of Mesikhat in the life of the Alas tribe, as a guide in social life. Seeing the shape, value, and function of the Mesikhat motif in its application to the Alas traditional house.

The researcher's interest is in raising Mesikhat as the object of research, because the motifs in Mesikhat have aesthetic values that are beneficial for the Alas tribe that need to be explored. Exploring the meaning contained in the symbolic forms and elements of Mesikhat's motifs in the life of the Alas community. There is still a lack of public knowledge about the meaning and naming of the Mesikhat motif, in Southeast Aceh.
